Do you make short films?
Are you a connoisseur of shorts? (We're talking cargo, denim, flat front)
Do you love making shorts while wearing shorts in the fall?
WELL THIS IS THE FILM FESTIVAL FOR YOU!!!
OCTOBER 18 & 19, The Mahoning Drive-In Theater presents it's 2nd Annual short film festival entitled ----drumroll please---- SHORTS IN THE FALL.
This will be a two-night event where we showcase the bizarre, weird, provocative, offbeat, quirky, and fun short films from around the Tri-State area. Whether a short drama, comedy, horror, sci-fi, animation, or whatever bizarre mash up of genre filmmaking you can come up with.Plus we're also accepting music videos too!
Each filmmaker is allowed to submit no more than (1) film, which should be no longer than (15) minutes in length.
Our crack team of judges will narrow all the submissions down to the Top (24) films, which will then be split into (2) separate screenings over the course of (2) nights.
Each screening will be followed by an awards ceremony, an audience Q&A , and a personally curated feature length film made by an up and coming area filmmaker (it wouldn't be a night at the drive-in without a double feature).
So what are you waiting for? Doesn't matter if you're a first timer, student, or seasoned vet. Give us your short films today, and if selected we hope to see you at our screening still rockin' those cargo shorts all the way into late October!
DON'T WAIT! Submit your film TODAY

Director Jeff (SQUIRM, BLUE SUNSHINE) Lieberman will be in attendance with signed copies of the film on Blu-ray for sale!
VIDEODROME (1983)- In one of David (THE FLY, RABID) Cronenberg’s most bizarre and unsettling features, disreputable TV station operator Max Renn (James Woods) discovers and seeks to acquire a twisted new program which he soon learns contains dangerous transmissions that can alter reality by inducing brain damage, which is being used as part of a global conspiracy. A freaky, engrossing masterpiece! Long Live the New Flesh!
Saturday, Aug 31:
PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE (1974) - A wicked record producer manipulates and steals the music from Winslow Leach, a struggling young songwriter, in order to open his new club, The Paradise. But despite being branded a criminal and disfigured in a tragic accident, Leach waits in the winds and bides his time to exact his revenge! Brian De Palma’s rock opera take on PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY and FAUST is a cult film fanatics delight that just keeps getting better and better with age, like the film itself has made a pact with the devil. Music by Paul Williams. Photo ops with the “Phantom” will be available!
BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS (1972)- The incomparable Russ Meyer teamed with young film critic Roger Ebert for what was to become one of the most brilliantly untamed motion pictures ever to be released by a major studio. The sweet rise and glorious fall of a small town rock band that travels to Hollywood to make it big is the back drop for a wild mixture of Meyerian madness and music depicting the depraved, nightmare world of show business. Featuring a very catchy soundtrack by Stu Phillips and The Strawberry Alarm Clock.

Can the last surviving member of the Voorhees family end Jason’s bloody reign of terror?

Friday, June 28:
MONSTER ZERO (1965) - An alien race comes to our world asking to borrow Earth’s mightiest monsters, Godzilla and Rodan, in order to defeat the mysterious “Monster Zero” that is plaguing their own planet. But when it soon becomes evident that the villainous visitors are actually plotting to overthrow the Earth and have kidnapped the monsters to prevent interference,it’s up to intrepid astronauts Nick Adams (FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD) and Akira Takarada (GOJIRA, KING KONG ESCAPES) to overthrow the aliens and release the captive Godzilla and Rodan, setting the stage for an epic battle with Monster Zero!
DESTROY ALL MONSTERS (1968) - Years before the Marvel movies popularized the concept of the “shared cinematic universe,” DESTROY ALL MONSTERS brought together nearly all of Toho’s kaiju creations from their various features. The result is perhaps the greatest Godzilla movie of all time! Once again, an army of alien invaders plots to seize control of the Earth. This time, they use our own monsters against us by mind-controlling an battalion of behemoths to attack the world’s largest cities! In addition to showcasing the fab four (Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah), DESTROY ALL MONSTERS features “deep cut” creatures like Manda, Gorosaurus, Baragon and Varan. Also keep an eye out for Ultraman himself, Susumu “Hayata” Kurobe, as one of the evil aliens.
GODZILLA’S REVENGE (1969)- A lonely young boy who is being bullied by his classmates retreats into an imaginary realm: he dreams that he has travelled to Monster Island and befriended Godzilla’s son, Minya (aka Minilla), who is dealing with a monster bully of his own. Together, the two outcasts learn to face their fears and fight their foes; this becomes particularly helpful when, back in the real world, the boy is kidnapped by bungling bank robbers! With its fantasy setting and bizarre bankrobber subplot, GODZILLA’S REVENGE is definitely one of the oddest Godzilla movies ever, but it is also oddly endearing.
Saturday, June 29:
GODZILLA VS. MECHAGODZILLA (1974)- In this, the penultimate Godzilla film of the 1970’s, the King of the Monsters faces perhaps his most deadly enemy yet: himself! Mankind is flummoxed when a second Godzilla starts wreaking havoc and confronts the original Big G. Turns out the new monster is actually a robotic clone known as Mechagodzilla that is being controlled by--you guessed it--alien invaders! This time the aliens look like refugees from the “Planet of the Apes” series, but they aren’t monkeying around when it comes to world domination! GODZILLA VS. MECHAGODZILLA also features the first appearance of King Seesar, a kaiju based on a mythical lion-like creature from Japanese folklore--though he looks more like a big puppy dog to us.
GODZILLA VS. MEGALON (1973)- Due to its prevalence on television “creature feature” and “Monster Week” programming in the 1970’s and 1980’s--and its inclusion in an early episode of “Mystery Science Theatre 3000”--GODZILLA VS. MEGALON is one of the most well-known Godzilla films of all time. It is also one of the most enjoyable! The undersea kingdom of Seatopia is fed up with mankind polluting the world’s oceans, so they unleash the giant insect-like creature Megalon to destroy the surface dwellers for their hubris. Let’s all cross our talons and hope that Godzilla and his new pal, the giant robot Jet Jaguar, are able to stop Megalon and once again save the planet from annihilation!
BONUS SECRET MOVIE (19??)- What’s that you say? You haven’t quite had your fill of creature carnage? Then grab yourself one last big bucket of popcorn and settle in for one final bout of monsterrific mayhem! We’ve saved one of our favorite flicks for the finale, but it’s a special surprise only for those drive-in denizens in attendance brave enough to stick around to the exhilarating end — everyone else can forever wonder how the night ended!
June 21 & 22
We believe everyone deserves a second chance, and so do movies. To that end, we're offering up this motley double bill (quack) of Masters of the Universe (1987) and Howard The Duck (1986). Neither of them were hits in their day, and both of them were panned by fans and critics alike, but looking back, were they really so bad? Maybe. Here is your chance to catch the other side of cinema history the way it was meant to be experienced...ON 35MM FILM! Can the power of nostalgia and the magic of the drive-in bring new life to these misfit and misunderstood motion pictures?
It's Second Chance Weekend. Come if you want.
Tickets are on sale now!
Overnight passes are available at the box office night-of-show!
It's our 70th season, and we're throwing an anniversary party! June 14 & 15, marks the return of our FIRST retro program from the wayback year of 2014, BITE NIGHT! ~ Jurassic Park & Jaws in timeless 35mm FILM!
Built in 1948, The Mahoning Drive-In Theater was constructed as the premiere area drive-in. It opened the following spring, and for 70 years, it shined as a cinematic beacon to the community. Today, The Mahoning Drive-In Theater stands as one of the nations last cinema giants; A truly massive single-screen outdoor theater. It's a monument to movie-viewing history!
Along with our retro 35mm programming, we've also managed to maintain and save much of the original infrastructure, including our 1940's Simplex E7 projectors (which are still in operation), making this drive-in one of the most authentic and historic moviegoing experiences in the country!
On June 7 & 8, The Mahoning Drive-In Theater invites you to “do your fang” at VAMPYRTY 2019! This year, we're going all out hosting a VAMPIRE SENIOR DANCE on the lot, spinning some undead jams over the airwaves, and turning the snack bar into a cursed gymnasium for all you guys, ghouls, and creatures of the night to celebrate!
